Wearing: Crochet dress from Balinese roadside market, Zimmermann bikini,Β Jennifer Zeuner Mini Eye & Hamsa Necklace, Jacquie Aiche finger bracelet,Β Elizabeth and James ring,Β Jennifer Myer ring.

Welcome to my favourite place in Bali. Suluban Beach offers a surfers paradise just offshore from this utopian cave. While there watching the tide roll in and surfers paddle out, a Balinese local came to place her offerings with the incense filling the cave. If you’re not a surfer don’t expect to swim, instead we chose to sit, pause and appreciate the view.

While in Ubud visiting the rice paddies I spotted this dress hanging in a roadside market store, run by a sweet old woman . So many tourists haggle to get a cheaper price just for the sake of it… but I honestly thought this dress was worth every cent of the $30 she first said, also doubling as a souvenir. I asked another lady who was weaving friendship bracelets how long it took to make each bracelet… a whole day. A week for the same as a belt…

    Hi Jessica,

I don’t mean this comment to be rude as your blog is still one of the few fashion blogs I still visit. I do feel that fashion blogs are slowly moving towards lifestyle and travel blogs now, with the latter that used to be seen as only your niche in the fashion world. It now feels like other similar blogs (no need to name names) are travelling more than you – and they are not paid to do so either. I did admire your passion for travel, but it now seems like to stretch out your travel posts/instagrams over weeks/months and aren’t really a travel blogger anymore. You still have great photos/fashion and I don’t mean to be horrible whatsoever but the travel side of things was what you were known for (see all the various forums) but you rarely do this anymore. I hope you start going to different destinations that you haven’t been to before and start giving us more of an insight in to your life as you seem really down to earth but wish you were more personal in some of your posts and instagrams (a lot of your instagrams’ always have the same kinda caption and you tend to be quite secretive about where you are travelling but other bloggers give us an intinery to look forward to etc).

Once again, I admire what you do and the work you put in to your blog but that is just my feedback on this πŸ™‚

      Hi Emma!

Thank you so much for your feedback. I am actually so happy to receive this and appreciate hearing my readers genuine thoughts as my blog evolves throughout the years!!

I do agree that a number of fashion blogs now have a higher focus on travelling and lifestyle compared to when I first started documenting my travels. I started my blog after a summer season in Europe (fully self funded), and a return trip the following year after I had started the blog and saved up again from selling my clothes at markets and on eBay. Since then I have been blessed to go on a number of trips both for the experience and collaborations with brands, but a LARGE majority of my travels are still self funded. For instance my visit to Hawaii this year was fully self funded, and although my photographer there with me is a close friend I of course paid for her full travel costs and work on top of my own.

I know that this does not apply to pretty much all of the other bloggers I know who have travelled the world solely by working with brands, and on a paid basis. It does hurt me when reading your thoughts that I am not “really a travel blogger anymore” when I put in endless hard efforts to growing my blog as a one woman team, with as similar values as possible to when I started.

Despite many assumptions I do not come from a rich family, nor have my parents ever contributed a cent towards my travels (which I am eternally grateful for that fact) so when I am at home I am genuinely saving for my next trip. If only it was that easy to book a flight to anywhere and have someone ready and waiting to shoot it all…

My New Years resolution for my blog was to “travel for myself” again. I am leaving for a lot travels in a few days and am so excited, having done a lot of research to visit new places and push myself further. I usually travel by myself or with a female photographer lately, and I won’t tell thousands of people where I am going beforehand (or sometimes until I have left) for safety reasons.

I try to put as much as I feel comfortable on my blog. I travel for myself and share a lot those travels on here to hopefully inspire others to seek new horizons, but have always asked for my readers to respect my privacy. I am not just an online ‘personality’ willing to have my self, family, friends and private life divulged. Although I do not feel comfortable posting everything online due to many reasons (bias, not knowing who is reading like creepy stalker men etc), but whenever I meet a reader in person I am more than happy to share anything and everything. To be 100% honest, this year I have fallen in love with a boy from my home city (which has kept me here much more than usual) and have been trying to sort out some ongoing health issues that I have had for many years, that travelling often exacerbates.

      I hope this help makes things a little clearer… J x

        Hi Jessica,

The last thing i’d ever want, is to be seen as someone sitting at a computer making rude and nasty comments at someone who I have respected and enjoyed reading over the last few years. I’m genuinely sorry that I hurt you with the ‘travel blogger’ comment and on the back off your response, my comment is irrelevant.

I didn’t realise that you will be going on lots of travels in the next few days and i’m really looking forward to reading about the new destinations on your list and the blog posts and social media documenting that will come with it, especially as they are self funded and the countries you chosen stem from your own curiousity. The travel side of your blog has always interested more than any other fashion blogger, purely because it seems so organic with you which is why I posted my earlier comment re lack of travel/extended posts etc. For example, I remember when you posted about your self funded trip to Santorini a while back. I have been saving to go there ever since as I know it is somewhere that you ‘genuinely’ loved, rather than being paid to go there.

If I was in your shoes, I would agree that I wouldn’t want to post exactly where I am going/flights/days/times etc, as I too, would be paranoid as to who is reading. I meant a realy rough indication e.g. northern Europe, Africa, South America, as a reader, this would make me even more intrigued.

I rarely comment on the blogs I visit, but your blog has always stuck out above the rest and I just wanted to give my opinion. I think a lot of people, including myself would agree that the fact you are a one woman team is admirable. I can’t believe you paid for your friends trip to Hawaii too – very respectable. Keep up the great work and i’m sorry again, that my comment hurt you.

        • Katie

Thanks for the message trail guys, it was actually really interesting to read through.

FYI Emma – you come across as completely lovely in your comments and managed to (from an outsiders point of view) describe what you were trying to say with an incredibly eloquent and humble manner. I just wanted to say that in case you are frantically re-reading it to ensure you haven’t wildly offended anyone! πŸ™‚

Jessica, so lovely to hear your point of view too. I love your blog and am a fairly new follower. Your pictures are so beautiful and the scenery is always incredible. So interesting to hear that you paid for your photographer to come out with you, I always wonder how more established blogs have such beautiful photos (FYI, I’m still teaching my boyfriend…he’s getting there!)

Also, just wanted to throw it out there. If you do get offered to travel to some far away land and for any reason don’t fancy going.. you know, there’s always a girl in London that loves to travel and has a passport to fill with stamps. Just sayin’ πŸ˜‰

          Katie <3

Hi Jess!!! I met you in Paris when we went hunting for your YSL ring (I think that’s what it was). Haha! You were sooooo down to earth and awesome especially when that security guard at the mall wasn’t uber kind to me =( I think it’s great that you get the opportunity to travel whether you are funded by yourself or some company/brand. No big deal! Whether your blog focusses on travel or fashion, I know you’re the same sweet girl and I’m genuinely excited and happy for you!!

      • Kelsey

So interesting to hear the above. Truly love your blog. So many amazing qualities in one person. Great work Jessica.

You have had the best blog of all the fashion/travel bloggers I follow! Thank you for letting us know a little about you and your travels. It does make sense to avoid posting so often about your whereabouts when traveling as a woman alone.

How do you always find these absolutely amazing spots? I’m guessing it takes a lot of research…
