Wearing: Asos top, Supermuse skirt, Sophia Webster heels, Jacquie Aiche finger bracelet and ring, Gorjana cuff, Rebecca Minkoff rings.

I wore this staple high neck, backless top and neoprene pencil skirt to dinner at Matsuhisa in Athens last week. I have heard stories of people who pack their luggage according to pre planned outfits, and I for one am nothing like that. I pack in anything that either catches my eye, haven’t had a chance to wear yet and reliable basics, in hope that they all come together at some point to form a wearable outfit.

In typical “Messica” style this means that every morning/before an event my room becomes a bomb site of clothes of mix and matching last minute. Somehow this works best for me, as I always prefer the outfits I put together on the spot and walk out the door before I can wonder about another top or shoes that might be lurking in the corner of my luggage, and changing several times again.

Interesting style of packing… I’m the total opposite of you– I plan all my outfits ahead of time from the shoes to the jewelry. It causes a lot of stress but saves time the morning of a trip. Btw, that blouse is amazing! I’m trying to find something like it.

An incredible outfit! The skirt is such a lovely, bright sky blue, and the back of the top is lovely. Haha, I have to agree with you on the way you pack. Many times I have attempted the ready-to-wear packing style, but it never works! I always end up mixing and matching what I have anyway! I like deciding what to wear on the spot anyway (no matter where I am). I think it shows how you feel without being necessarily aware of it – even if it takes a few times to change to get it right!

I just bought this top in mink! you always make asos so wearable!!

Wish you posted on insta as regularly and as ‘live’ as Chiara Ferragni. Your pictures are so nice, glad it’s not just selfies but travel and food pics too!). I like it that you mix it up on there so we don’t get bored. Hope you post your Mexico video diary soon!

    • jessicastein

Hi Hannah, Thank you so much for your feedback I honestly appreciate it so much.

Posting ‘live’ is something I would honestly love to do and am striving for. If you’re meaning on things like Instagram, unfortunately I do not have a global 3G sim card so majority of the time I am waiting to get to Wifi in order to upload. Other reasons are that sometimes I do not post where I am at a certain time for safety reasons while travelling alone, and I might go ‘offline’ for a few hours while actually enjoying a moment therefore posting later than the other girls. In regards to having a faster turn around for my blog- it is something I am working hard at. Unfortunately I am a one woman team, sourcing photographers and no PA/manager help like a vast majority of other bloggers.
I am so excited to start making my Mexican video diary! I have a few quiet days next week and will get it done ASAP, to be honest I’m hoping my laptop doesn’t crash and burn while trying to upload/edit the content!! X

      • Hannah

I totally understand that you don’t post ‘live’ sometimes for security, especially with such a large blog/instagram following. I would be the same tbh. I think you’re very respected on the internet and we all know how much work you put in, especially considering you do it all yourself. That’s a factor that makes your blog so inviting/successful (that you are such a hard worker & have the talent to do it by yourself.). You’re instagram is the perfect variation of different elements of your days and always my favourite account to look at.

Ah thats so good! Can’t wait to view it, the videos are on of my favourite elements of your blog. Not only do you pick good outfits & places to travel but you have great music taste for your vids too!

I plan on getting into travel blogging, but how do you finance all of these trips? Does anyone work with a certain company to get to be able to travel and write?

    • jessicastein

Hi Mandi, thanks for your comment. I believe the reason for my blog’s ‘success’ as a travel blogger is mainly because I never intended it to eventuate to anything in the first place. I have a genuine passion for travelling, spending time experiencing new places and their cultures. I saved up and bought a ticket overseas when I was 20, lasting nearly several months in Europe by staying in hostels and backpacking. When I arrived home I started a blog based on my travels, including what I bought while away. I sold all of the clothes I had collected and ended up saving enough to go back to Europe the following summer.

I fund around 80% of my trips these days, but yes I do sometimes work with brands. This is quite new for me and I will always stick to brands I genuinely like, and it helps me be able to travel more in opportunities that are a lot easier on my funds. I earn money from my blog by either doing a collaboration, from having advertising on my page, or selling my clothes on eBay and at markets. I am self employed doing something I truly love, working hard and constantly, and am always on a tight budget.

When I visit home I live with my parents. I do not have any overheads like electricity bills etc, and hope people realise it is simply a different way of life. I sleep in hostels, hotels, airBnB apartments, friends couches or floors, anything as I adore to be on the road. I assume that everyone knows that not everything is what you might see filtered on Instagram, and anyone who is a real traveller knows it is not always glamorous.

I hope anyone considering starting a blog for fashion, travel, or anything does not start it with the expectation of overnight success. I did not receive a cent from blogging for at the very least 2 years, with it simply being a hobby that came naturally from wanting to share something I love.

Wishing you all of the best with your new travel blog, please send me the link when you have it up and running!

You seriously always look so chic! So fun to live vicariously through your adventures, but I have to ask, does all the travelling ever put a toll on you? Just imagining the jet lag/time differences, I would be so wonked!
