While I was in New York for the last few weeks of my trip I stayed at my beautiful friend Laura‘s apartment in the West Village. It was perfect playing pretend that I actually lived there and had her as my perfect roomie / West Village guide. Being her selfless self she refused to accept rent from me, so as a thank you I suggested to take her on a helicopter ride over NYC (after telling her how incredible the one in Rio de Janeiro was!).
There have been very few times on my travels where I think something wasn’t all its cracked up to be…. but I only want to be completely honest to my readers about what to recommend doing while in NYC. From my personal experience I would not suggest the helicopter ride here. It is a good way to see the whole island, but for the expensive price tag (over $320 each!!) all I got to see from sitting on the left hand side was New Jersey and the same views of NYC that I could see from any bridge or buildings rooftop. The company we chose to go with was also extremely rude and unorganised, which made a dampening when handing over that much money and walking away feeling deflated.
If you’re going to spend any money to see a spectacular view of New York, go to Top of the Rock. It is only $25 and worth every single cent. Laura, Patricia and I went a few days after this helicopter ride and it felt much more of a moment to share with each other and the city over an intense sunset than the helicopter did in its few minutes.
